Learning Log • Write down 3 goals that you have set and achieved • Group work • Develop a list of at least 4 factors that helped you achieve these goals
Setting goals P-Smarty • P-positive • S-specific • M-measurable • A-attainable • R-realistic • T-timley • Y-yours
Positive • Use I will instead of I won’t statements • Brain hears commands • More likely to do it • Inspire to continue setting goals
Specific • Greater chance of getting accomplished • General- “I will get into shape” • Specific- “I will run 3 times a week for 30 minutes to get into shape”
Measurable • When a goal is measurable, you can track your progress • Ask yourself • How much? How many? • How will I know when I have accomplished my goal? • Good-I will run everyday • Better-I will run 3 miles everyday
Attainable • Within reach • Not attainable-Everyone in the school will like me • Attainable-I will make 2 new friends by the end of the week
Realistic • You are excited to achieve goal • Willing and Able to Work towards • You are the only one to decide • Good-I will keep Football watching on Saturday to a minimum • Better- I will keep football watching on Saturday to a minimum because I want to play with Bronson more
Timely • Set a timetable of when you want to achieve the goal • Makes goals more specific • Add a sense of urgency • Provide a good way to measure • Good-I will get a 3.0 in school • Better-I will get a 3.0 this term
Yours • Partner goals are not the best • They make it theirs and you go along for the ride • Good-We will study for 3 hours the day before the test • Better-WE can study for 3 hours but I need 4 in order to feel ready
