Scientific Method Spend 5 minutes in your groups and generate a definition for scientific inquiry.
Step 1: Ask a Question Example: Do plants grow faster using a particular fertilizer? Example: At what temperature does water boil?
Step 2: Research the Question • Gather information about the topic. • What are some resources for research?
Step 3: Form a Hypothesis An educated guess about the question Use an "If...then..." statement that shows cause and effect Example: If a plant is given a special fertilizer, then it will be healthier.
Step 4: Conduct the Experiment Make a list of materials. List all steps in order. Follow instructions exactly!
Step 5: Collect and Analyze Data Collect data and make a chart or graph.
Step 7: Drawing Conclusions Summarize the facts you gathered from your experiment. Was your hypothesis correct or not.
Step 8: Share your conclusions Share your findings with others. You never know who might be able to use them!
