  3. Why Pediatric Trauma? • Unintentional injury remains the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S. • Unintentional injury kills more kids every year than any other cause – including disease, homicide and suicide!

  7. Grant Making

  8. PTP Grants For SLP Clubs • Grants available for new service projects which seek to prevent and/or treat pediatric trauma – defined as sudden, unintentional physical injury. • Provides start-up funds: up to 50% of the club’s cash contribution to the total project cost, with a maximum of $250

  9. Types of PTP Projects Any NEW project that addresses sudden, unintentional physical injury! • Bicycle Rodeo • Helmet Distribution • Water Safety Event • Child Safety Day • Walk to School Day • Child Safety Seat Inspection Event • Trauma Dolls/Bears • Poison Prevention

  10. Good to Know! We want to say “Yes”! Some common mistakes: Project is not “new” Did not complete all of the application Did not include Project Budget

How to Apply for a Grant • Complete the appropriate PTP grant application • Include the following: • An estimate of service hours committed to the project • Date when funds are required • A copy of the club’s current year Community Service Budget (if available) • A project budget including club funds committed, “in-kind” donations, and any other sources of outside funding

  13. Leadership Training • Provides officers of SLP organizations with the leadership techniques and tools. • Approximately $45,000 spent annually to train SLP officers

  14. Scholarship Fund • Established in 1981 by Past Governor Kenneth C. Forror, M.D. • Provides financial assistance to members of Circle K, Key Club and KIWIN’S • Approximately $103,000 provided annually!

  15. Loretta Barksdale-McElwain Scholarship • Established in 1997 through the generosity of Les McElwain in memory of his wife Loretta • Awarded to a Key Club or KIWIN’S graduating senior, for post-secondary education • Largest award available to a SLP recipient – annual average $21,000!

How to Apply for a Scholarship • Complete the CNH Foundation Scholarship application (application available in the Fall) • Need only complete one application for all available scholarships • Read the instructions • Adhere to the formatting rules • Answer all questions completely • Provide details!
