  17. Guiding Principles • Mission • Empower members to be leaders in integrative and functional nutrition • Vision • Optimize health and healing with integrative and functional nutrition • Values • Innovation, Integrity and Compassion Spring 2015

  18. Guiding Principles • The Guiding Principles outline how the DPG operates and is governed • The Guiding Principles determine (but are not limited to): • How nominations and elections are held • How vacancies are filled • Terms and Term Limits • What the functions of the EC are Spring 2015

  21. Operating Philosophy • Conduct a program of work in a professional manner within the strategic framework of the Academy. Invest proceeds of projects to further the development of DIFM DPG, its members and the profession • Establish networks and alliances with organizations whose goals are compatible with DIFM’s in order to further the mission of DIFM • Develop and implement technology and communication plans to help achieve DIFM goals Spring 2015

  22. Membership • DIFM membership is over 3,700 strong! • We are the 4th largest DPG by membership • Membership continues to grow at an exponential rate! • Integrative and functional medicine is gaining steam! Spring 2015

  33. Who We Report To • DIFM, like all DPGs, reports to the Academy • We are bound to their policies • Failure to comply can result in the DPG being shut down • The Academy Practice Manager is our liaison to the Academy and guides our decision-making Spring 2015

  35. The Executive Committee • The EC is the entire committee, voting and non-voting members • All elected officers and appointed executive committee members are required to be active Academy members Spring 2015

  36. Positions • Elected: Candidates have been involved with DIFM for no less than three years and have previously served as Chair of at least one committee • Appointed: These positions are filled by the Chair and/or Chair-Elect. No election is held for these positions Spring 2015

Chair • Serves as DIFM’s governing officer • Oversees the execution of DIFM’s Guiding Principles, Strategic Plan, Program of Work (POW), Position Descriptions and all policy and procedure directives issued by both DIFM and the Academy • Delegates tasks (and bows in gratitude to those who complete them) Spring 2015

  39. Chair • Appoints Chairs, Associates and ad-hoc committees and fills vacancies as stated in the Guiding Principles • Represents DIFM at FNCE and other internal and external stakeholder meetings as necessary • Prepares agenda for and presides over all DIFM EC teleconferences and official meetings of the membership Spring 2015

  40. Chair • Works on special projects and initiatives • Also known as “The Big Cheese” • Never sleeps • Is fed caffeine through a 24-hour cycle of peripheral parenteral nutrition Spring 2015

  41. Chair-Elect • Assists the Chair in communication, organization and implementation of initiatives related to the strategic plan • Conducts conference calls/meetings within certain working groups when assigned by Chair or the Chair is unable to attend • Attends and communicates with other EC members regarding initiatives and projects Spring 2015

  42. Chair-Elect • Helps lead/contribute/facilitate FNCE and SLR • Is ‘learning the ropes’ (governance) from the Chair for when they assume the Chair position Spring 2015

  43. Past Chair • Serves as historical advisor on governance matters to the Chair and Chair-Elect • Reviews the DPGGoverning Documents with the Chair and Chair-Elect and makes recommendations on proposed revisions to the EC • Submits recommendations for Program of Work (POW) and budget for next fiscal year by December 1 (or as requested) Spring 2015

  44. Past Chair • Serves on the Newsletter Editorial Committee • Serves as advisor to the Nominating Committee • After serving for two years, found frequently sleeping Spring 2015

  45. Treasurer • Responsible for the overall fiscal health of DIFM • Ensures the DPG stays above 75% of reserves • Maintains records of all financial transactions • Issues invoices to sponsors and pays all bills • Submits budget each fiscal year for approval by the EC and Academy • Prepares an end-of-year financial report and shares with the entire membership Spring 2015

  46. Secretary • Records and posts meeting minutes for monthly calls, FNCE planning and SLR • Never stops writing; is always listening; used to work for the NSA • Notifies candidates of election results Spring 2015

  47. Delegate • The ‘Voice of the Members’ • Along with the Academy Board of Directors, Delegates govern the profession and vote on policies and professional ‘mega-issues’ • Continually seeks member input on important issues that impact the profession • Supports and encourages proactive member advocacy Spring 2015

  48. Nominating Committee • Solicits qualified candidates to be on the DIFM ballot annually for elected positions • Completes all required aspects of elections, communication with prospects, candidates, and the EC • Calls for nominations for awards Spring 2015

  49. Nominating Committee • Calls for applications for Professional Development Stipend awards • Consists of three elected members and the Past-Chair Spring 2015

  50. Appointed Positions • Everyone else! • DIFM is always looking to recruit outstanding volunteers- spread the word! Spring 2015
