  12. Mitigation Planning • Accomplishments: • Approved mitigation plans for 16,000+ communities • Awarded more than 9,000 HMGP grants • Helped communities acquire 33,000+ structures

  13. Mitigation Planning Challenges: Many mitigation plans have expired or are set to expire. Planning is often not a priority in some local areas

Levee Coordination • FEMA and USACE • Coordination efforts have intensified and will continue to be important in the future. • Guidance issued and actions taken are more complementary and less contradictory. • FEMA and Other Agencies • FEMA also coordinates with other federal and state agencies.

Levee Challenges • Challenges include: • Obtaining data and documentation to determine whether to accredit, provisionally accredit, or de-accredit. • Preparing mapping products that accurately depict existing hazards and risks behind levees • Explaining the hazards and risks to community officials and citizens

  18. Risk MAP (Mapping, Assessment, Planning) Vision Through collaboration with State, Local, and Tribal entities, Risk MAP will deliver quality data that increases public awareness andleads to action that reduces risk to life and property.
