Uses of Imperfect & Preterite together • Use the Imperfect to talk about what things were like OR what was going on • Use the Preterite to talk about an event that began or ended while something else was going on, OR that interrupted what was happening. Ejemplo: Mihermana y yojugábamos al esconditecuandoella setorcióel tobillo.

Using “Ir+a+infinitive” • Use the expression in the Imperfect to say what someone was going to do or what was going to happen: Iba a jugar con mi perro… Iban a ir al cine… • Use a verb in the Preterite to say what happened instead or what interrupted the plans: Iba a jugar con mi perroperotuvequeestudiar. Iban a ir al cine pero Juan no trajodinero.
