The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) have disclosed records of internship opportunities they had offered to college/university students in the State of California. The recently disclosed records of (internship opportunities offered by) the SFAC go back to October 27th 1995. When disclosing these records, the SFAC confirmed that no international student completed an internship with them as part of his/her Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and/or Optional Practical Training (OPT).

SFAC GALLERIES EXHIBITION INTERN The SFAC Galleries is currently seeking a student or emerging arts professional to participate in a paid summer internship. The SFAC Galleries Exhibitions Intern will report directly to the SFAC Galleries Director, and assist the Director in administrative and curatorial tasks related to the preparation of upcoming exhibitions at three Civic Center locations: the SFAC Main Gallery and Café Valor in the Veterans Building; and SF City Hall. Internship Available Internship Available San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) Civic Art Collection Civic Art Collection (CAC) (CAC) Intern Summer 2016 Summer 2016 Description Description SFAC is charged with the goal to preserve the many artworks accessioned by the city of San Francisco. The City’s collection of monuments and contemporary artworks is valued in excess of $80 million dollars with over 3,000 works in the collection, from historic monuments to contemporary works. The CAC Internship will provide an opportunity to assist with projects related to the cataloguing, display, maintenance, and conservation of the Civic Art Collection. Recently, the city completed a mulit-year inventory project that has been an integral planning tool for the team. The city uses a collections management database (EmBARK) to organize details of artworks in addition to maintaining an extensive physical archive. SFAC is responsible for managing various types of projects to care for the collection including typical maintenance, conservation treatment (stabilization/restoration), and assessment projects. The collections team is underway with projecting long-term management and conservation needs for this diverse collection. This internship position will assist with completion of phase II of this project, and tasks will include: researching materials and treatment histories of individual monuments, correlating data to identify trends to anticipate conservation needs, geo-locating monuments for future mapping, and updating information in the collections management database. The internship will expose students to multiple facets of public art collections care and planning long-term preservation goals. In addition to the project listed above the intern will assist with other ongoing projects as needed including a public mural investigation and various conservation stabilization and restoration projects. During the internship, the student will be mentored by the collections team and learn software skills (Embark database), best practices for collection care, write condition reports, how to plan and manage conservation projects, and project budgeting. Eligibility Eligibility The intern must be graduate-level status, and have computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Adobe Design Suite (Acrobat and Photoshop are most relevant). Experience with collections management systems preferred, and any experience with database systems or large inventories is desired. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, and collaborative with good communication skills. Academic credit will be arranged. Internship will be structured around a 40 hour work with, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility in reporting times. The intern will work with the Collection Archivist to: • Determine non-current files to be archived--objects that have been de-accessioned, photo files, project files and misc. historical records. • Review files and box innumerical, or alphabetical order as the case may be • Copy any documents or scan photos/slides that we may need to keep on hand. • Create an index of contents of archive, ie WPA Projects, murals.

Golden Gate University agrees to set up a restricted account and issue honorarium payments at least once a month upon receipt of confirmation by me as is required by your accounting department. The internship may be terminated with two weeks’ notice, without cause, either by some other duly authorized representative of the San Francisco Arts Commission. If the internship is terminated before completion of the full four months, Golden Gate University agrees to refund the unused honoraria to the San Francisco Arts Commission. As a fee for its administration of the honoraria, San Francisco Arts Commission will pay Golden Gate University the sum of $440.00.
