Ardscoil Phadraig Careers Presentation 12th February 2014 Welcome Incoming Second Year Parents Mrs Mary Sheridan Guidance Counsellor
Ardscoil Phadraig offers a wide variety of subjects in First Year. This is done so that students can experience as many subjects as possible prior to deciding areas of study for Junior Cert. Students now have to choose subjects for their Junior Certificate
There is no need to be concerned about making these choices Adolescence is a time to explore different career choices However, it is important that students keep their options open
Entry to Third Level Three separate criteria • Matriculation Requirements • Course Requirements • Points
Matriculation Requirements • Matriculation requirements are the basic standard that a third level college requires students to reach before they are deemed eligible to be considered for a place on a course in that college
Matriculation Requirements • Matriculation requirements vary from college to college • They also depend on the level of the course being applied for
Matriculation Requirements for NUI Colleges*For Certain Courses Irish English *A Third Language *Maths Any Two/Three other Matriculation Subjects

French Caution A modern language is, at present, a matriculation requirement for many National University of Ireland courses therefore it is important that students think carefully and speak to their parents and the Guidance Counsellor before deciding to drop French
Points and Course Requirements It is important that students ‘push themselves’ and take as many subjects as possible at Higher Level in the Junior Cert because Higher Level subjects are awarded higher points in LC and are required for some courses
