What is a plot? Plot is the action of a story. It is the series of related events from the beginning of the story to the end.
Points of tension / conflict Plot 3. Climax 2. Rising Action 4. Falling Action 1. Exposition 5. Resolution The plot diagram describes the structure of a story. It shows arrangement of events and actions within a story.
Plot 3. Climax Eventually the story reaches a crucial moment. The tension that is building reaches a peak. 2. Rising Action 4. Falling Action Characters face or try to solve a problem. This results in conflicts within themselves or with others. Sometimes called the denouement, this part of the story explores the consequences of the climax. The tension in the story begins to ease. 1. Exposition 5. Resolution Background information establishes the setting and describes the situation. The story’s central problem is finally solved, leaving the reader with a sense of completion.
Activity • Label the plot diagram in your worksheet. • Think about the key events in ‘ The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. Identify the Beginning (Exposition), Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and Ending (Resolution) of the story.
