History - Telephone made by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876 - Radio presented by Gugleilmo Marconi (1894), made by Nikolai Tesla (1880s) - Radio and telephone combined to make cell phone in 1950s - Used to make a wireless phone that still picks up and sends signals via radio waves - First cell phone made by Martin Cooper (1973/ early 1970s)
How They Work - Signals transmit to base centers - Base centers find phone using phone number - Call goes through satellites and other towers - Phone always transmits some radio signal to base center - Signal goes to base center nearest to you - Center finds phone using phone number
Parts and Functions Circuit board- main part of the cell phone Antenna: internal & external- connection to the cellular network inside the casing of a cell phone; sticks out of the phone Microphone and speaker- allow speech and listening Battery- lifeline runs out => cell phone can't function Other components- optional i.e. internet connector
