  2. SAVE THE EARTH! • We are saving the earth to help prevent pollution. • it has been estimated that on average a school-age child using a disposable lunch makes 67 pounds of waste per school year. That compares to 18,760 pounds of lunch waste for just one average-size elementary school. • We should always reuse, reduce and recycle

  3. What can you do to help? • You can use plastic containers from home and reuse them. • You can bring in compostable lunches or bags. • You can also buy lunch from the cafeteria(which also has compostable things.)

  4. What has Baltimore city done so far? • In 2011, the city collected 26,000 tons of recyclable materials. That’s 52,000,000 pounds of material diverted from your landfills. • On the other hand, last year they collected 147,000 tons of TRASH – that’s a lot of garbage – and we can reduce that amount dramatically. • In 2010, Baltimore City recycled 27% of its waste.

  5. Why is recycling so important and how can you prevent it? • Recycling helps sustain our environment, reduces and saves energy. • Use any container you want: paper bags, cardboard boxes, old laundry baskets – you can even use trash cans (just mark it “recycling”). The only rule? Do not place recycling in plastic bags. • Fill Your Container With Recyclables : Paper, Cans, Cardboard, and Bottles • Put out all that you can – there is no limit to the amount of recycling you can put out.

  6. What kind of bins are there? • Compostable bin • Recycling bin • Waste bin • Bottle bin
