Cadences. Music Advance Subsidiary. Cadences. You are required to name cadences in a given melody at the end of a phrase. In a given melody you will need to recognize the following cadences: Perfect (V - I), Imperfect (any chord - V), Interrupted (V - IV), Plagal (IV –I).

  2. Cadences • You are required to name cadences in a given melody at the end of a phrase. • In a given melody you will need to recognize the following cadences: • Perfect (V - I), • Imperfect (any chord - V), • Interrupted (V - IV), • Plagal (IV –I)

  4. Chords most commonly used at cadences are: • IV followed by I (plagal cadence) Listen

  5. Chords most commonly used at cadences are: • Any chord followed by V (imperfect cadence) Listen

  6. Chords most commonly used at cadences are: • V followed by VI (interrupted cadence) Listen

  7. Activity 1 Listen to the following cadences and decide on the correct answer. 1 Perfect Imperfect Plagal 2 Plagal Perfect Imperfect 3 Plagal Interrupted Perfect 4 Imperfect Plagal Interrupted = Correct = Incorrect
