  3. Sura Al-Zumar, Verse 37 Is not Allah sufficient for His servant? And yet they would frighten thee with those beside Him. And he whom Allah adjudges astray – for him there is no guide. sufficient servant

  4. Al-Kaafi كافي • ‘The Sufficient’ • “…does not need recourse to any other or have hopes from any other.” • Used to express gratitude and humility towards Allah • “…protection against many evils and source of progression of our faith” (Friday Sermon: Jan. 16th, 2009)

  5. Abd ﻋﺒﺪ • Slave, servant • Connotes those who are: • Perfectly obedient to Allah • Proclaim to be “helpers of Allah” • Worship, glorify, honor Allah • “Abd implies that a person so named should refrain from every kind of freedom and self-direction and should be completely obedient to his master, therefore, the seekers after truth have been urged that if they wish to attain salvation they should adapt themselves to this condition” (Vol. 1, page 206).

Materialism (Shirk) • ‘Man is prone to the worship of false gods – the idols of his own creation.’ • Forms of Shirk: • To practice idolatry • To place the importance of objects before Allah • To consider oneself an important being before Allah • To place the importance of objects before Allah • Diverts from the Purpose of Man’s Life • To consider oneself an important being before Allah • Difference between Arrogance and Beauty

Improvement of Self • Self-Reflection • Free from pride, haughtiness • Istighfar and Taubah – Praying for Forgiveness • “The true meaning of Istighfar is to supplicate God that no human weakness should be manifested and that God might support nature with His strength and might enclose it in the circle of His help and protection” (Essense of Islam, Volume 2, pg 241) • “Taubah (Repentance) means that a person should discard a vice with the resolve that thereafter, even if he is thrown into the fire, he would not commit that vice” (pg 235)

  11. Tawaqal il Allah • The Holy Prophetsaw said: “Focus yourself on Allah: you will see Him before you. Remember Him in your good times: He will remember you in your bad times. And whatever you have lost was not in you destiny, and whatever you have received was meant to be for you. Remember, Allah helps those who are patient. Happiness and sadness are juxtaposed, and good times follow bad times” (Bukhari). • Fifth Condition of Bai’at  “Remain faithful to God”

Haqooq-ul-Ibad • “The rights of man to other men” • For Allah’s sake, we show kindness to His creation • “It befits you that there should be no intention to cause any loss to any religion, any people, or any man in any group but instead you should become sincere advisors to all… there should be no element of impurity, ridicule or derision in your meetings; and walk on this earth with piety in your heart and purity of thoughts and conduct and remember every mischief is not worth responding. Therefore, it is important that you should develop a habit of forgiveness and mercy. You should act with patience and forbearance and do not assail anyone unlawfully.”
