WATER RESEARCH OF PINEVIEW RESERVOIR

This research aims to establish the correlation between annual runoff and precipitation, and estimate the annual contaminant load in Pineview Reservoir. Data collection and analysis, watershed delineation, and creating a function for runoff and precipitation are included.

  1. WATER RESEARCH OF PINEVIEW RESERVOIR XIONGFEI LIU 12/3/99

  2. Goals • TO DEVELOPE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MEAN ANNUAL RUNOFF AND PRECIPITATION IN THE PINEVIEW RESERVOIR WATERSHED • TO ESTIMATE THE TOTAL ANNUAL CONTAMINANT LOAD IN THE PINEVIEW RESERVOIR

  3. Step 1:Data Collection • DEM • RF3 • WEATHER STATION HISTORICAL PRECIPITATION • GAGE STATION HISTORICAL STREAMFLOW • LAND USE AND LAND COVER • WATER QUALITY STATION DATA • POINT CONTAMINATION SOURCES

  4. Step 2: Preprocess of Raw Data • USE MICRODEM TO MERGE AND CLIP THE RETRIVED DEM DATA • USE TARDEM GAPFILL TO FILL THE GAPS IN THE DEM • CREATE GAGE STATIONS POINT THEME • CREATE CLIMATE STATIONS POINT THEME • PROJECT ALL THE THEMES IN THE SAME PROJECTION:UTM-1927 ZONE 12

  5. Step 3:Delineate the Watershed and Stream Network • ADD ALL THE GAGE STATION AS ADDED OUTLETS FOR THE OUTLET THEME • USE CRWR-PREPRO TO DELINEATE THE SUB-WATERSHED AND STREAM NETWORKS • CREATE ALL THE SUBWATERSHEDS USING GAGE STATIONS AS OUTLETS

  6. Step 4:Develop the Relation Between Precipitation and Elevationp=0.7239*z-495.28

  7. Step 5:Get the Mean Precipitation for Each Subwatershed • USE THE PRECIPITATION VERSUS ELEVATION FUNCTION GET THE PRECIPITATION FOR THE PINEVIEW WATERSHED • MAKE MASK FOR EACH SUBWATERSHED,THEN USE MAP CALCULATOR TO GET THE PRECIPITAION FOR EACH SUBWATERSHED • GET THE MEAN PRECIPITATION FOR EACH SUBWATERSHED

  8. Step 6:Get the Mean Annual Runoff for Each Subwatershed • MEAN ANNUAL RUNOFF=MEAN ANNUAL STREAMFLOW OF EACH GAGE STATION/(DAINAGE AREA)

  9. Step 7:Develop the Relationship Between Mean Annual Runoff and Precipitation • COLLECT MEAN ANNUAL RUNOFF AND PRECIPITATION DATA FOR EACH SUBWATERSHED • USE MICROSOFT-EXCEL TO DEVELOP THE FUNCTION FOR MEAN ANNUAL RUNOFF AND PRECIPITATION FOR THE PINEVIEW WATERSHED

  10. Conclusion ...and Ongoing Work • Conclusion:(for Pineview Reservoir Watershed) • Mean Annual Runoff=0.2796* Mean Annual Precipitation-100.21 (unit:mm) • Ongoing Work:Find the Event Mean Concentration For Different Land Use,Use the Formula: Mean Annual Total Contaminant Load= Mean Annual Runoff*Event Mean Concentration
