GENERAL **SEARCH TYPES: Subject, Author, Citation… **DATABASES TYPES: Differ by Subjects, by Medium **TEXTUAL SCIENTIFIC DATABASES: Sites,1) Full-Text: E-journals Publishers Statistical databases, E-books… 2) Bibliographic: Abbreviated Information.
BIBLIOGRAPHIC DATABASES 1) Show ABBREVIATED INFO. from publications (submitted & stored according to certain rules). 2) REPRESENT & DIRECT to entire publications. 3) Only PARTS of the entire texts, are STORED. (au,ti,ad,py,la,pt,ud,ab,so,de,mesh,kw…) 4) RECORDS: The info. is divided into FIELDS. 5) Need to LOCATE the ENTIRE PUBLICATION, at the search end, after checking search results.
SEARCH BASICS 1) CHOOSEtheMOST RELEVANT DATABASEaccording to your needs.Use the “DATABASES BY SUBJECTS” list, at theLibrary Homepage: http://www.agri.huji.ac.il/library/subjdata_new.html 2) SEARCH THOROUGHLY(all synonyms, spellings, grammar forms, initials / full phrase, truncation, controlled vocabulary), in order to retrieve all the relevant data. 3) COMBINEterms/subjects by:OR, AND, NOT,(NEAR, SAME).
SEARCH BASICS 4)CHECK RESULTS & MODIFY the search by: LIMITINGorENHANCINGthe search query. 5) MARK records (optional: prepares a selected set for saving/printing/e-mailing). 6) Rearrange the set of results using the SORT option. (optional). 7) SAVE QUERY (Search History) for future use. 8) SAVE / PRINT / EMAIL the set of results. 9) LOCATEFULL TEXTS.
