The Dilemma of Marriage • Marriage according to Islam • Dating and premarital relationships • Already in love… • Islamic way of getting married • Avoiding the temptations
Marriage According to Islam • The first relation... • We are created in pairs.. It’s one of the signs of Allah • Purpose of marriage… • A blessed Sunnah of Ambiya-e-Karaam • Referred to as Libas in Quran
Dating and Premarital Relationships • What Islam says… • Dealing with the opposite gender.. • It’s based on materialistic approach • You cannot know a person by dating • Rate of divorce in Western countries… • Breakups- trauma, anxiety, depression… • Ending up in mental hospitals.. • Distances you from Allah SWT and ruins your heart…
Already in Love… • Break off every sort of contact… • Make Tauba to Allah SWT… • Give yourself time to get emotionally detached… • Think again and think rationally… • Talk to the family if it’s worth and make it Halal… • Be mature enough to get married…
Islamic Way of Getting Married • Indirect approach… • Things to consider • Who is the right girl… • Islam and love marriages • It’s okay to like someone.. Just have the right approach • Meeting the prospective wife.. • Istikhara and Tawakkul • No interaction until Nikah
Avoiding the Temptations • Lower your gaze • Fasting • Keep yourself busy in permissible activities • Keep good company • Work hard to get married soon.. • Duas
Workings of Karma: Why Me? Why Now? WHY GOD??
What is Karma • For every action there is always and equal and fair reaction. • As you sow, so shall you reap • if a person commits an act of good or evil, he himself becomes the heir to that action • The Cause and Effect law! • we ourselves have made all the causes for all the effects we currently experience in our lives
Karma in Action • Four ways Karma can work • Do Good receive Good • Do Bad receive Bad • Do Bad receive Good • Do Good receive Bad
Trial – a truth about Life Workings of Karma • Do Bad receive Good – Just wait a little more! • He who does evil shall be requited for it.(An-Nisa 4:123) • Then, when they had forgotten all that they had been told to take to heart, We threw open to them the gates of all [good] things until -even as they were rejoicing in what they had been granted - We suddenly took them to task: and lo! they were broken in spirit.
Trial – a truth about Life Workings of Karma • Do Good receive Bad: • OR receiving bad without doing any bad • Why me? • Karma going wrong! • The issue of fairness and justice • The feeling of being deprived/ disadvantaged leading to despair / distrust/ frustration/ sadness/ disappointment/ etc • Understanding Taqdeer
Framing the Problem • If everything is written in ‘Taqdeer’, why should I worry about trying anything at all? • if Taqdeeris already written, it means I don’t have a freewill and choice to choose my actions! We are just puppets and will act according to the master plan!! • So why worry, just sit back and relax!
Understanding Taqdeer • We Know Allah SWT is as He has introduced Himself to be. • Al- Khaliq (The Creator) • Al- Aleem ( The All-knowing) & • Al-Qadeer( The Absolute Doer) • He the Creator, everything else is His creation. • Space and time are also His creation. • He is beyond space and time. He transcends space and time.
Understanding Taqdeer • It’s incorrect to say that Allah SWT is up there in the sky, or He is ‘Everywhere’. ‘Everywhere’ is still finite whereas Allah SWT is above and beyond. • He is beyond physicality and bodily form. In fancy English, this is called the Transcendental Nature of the Divine. • Time and space has no meaning for Allah SWT. He is beyond that. Time passes over human beings, not over Allah SWT. • Past, Presentand Futurehave no meaning for Allah SWT. Since, Allah SWT is beyond that, hence He already knows our future as time is not passing over Him.
Understanding Taqdeer • The more intimately you know someone, the better you can predict. A Professor & Student relationship! • This does not mean that the Professor is biased. Rather, it means that the professor knew his students well. • His Knowing our Future (i.e. Taqdeer) DOES NOT negate our free action!Does your knowing negate the fact that I came here on my own choice and freewill? • Allah (swt) has the perfect intimate knowledge of us (by the fact that he is Al-Aleem). He already knows what we are going to do but not directing our actions. • To understand Taqdeer, we need to revisit & reflect on the purpose of Dunyafirst.
Purpose of Dunya - Trial Surely, we have made whatever is on earth as an adornment for it, and that we may try them, whichever of them is most beautiful in works. Al-kahaf (18:7) Who created death and life, that He may try you, which of you is most beautiful in works. Al-mulk (67:2)
Purpose of Dunya - Trial Every soul must taste death and we try you by evil and good by way of probation, and to us you shall return. Al-anbiya (21:35) And whoever desires the hereafter and strives for it as he ought to strive and is a believer, their striving shall surely be accepted. Al-Isra(17:19)
Purpose of Dunya - Trial So when harm afflicts a man he calls upon us, then, when we give him a favour from Us, he says: I have been given it only by means of (my own) knowledge. Nay, it is a trial, but most of them do not know. Al-Zumur(39:49)
Purpose of Dunya - Trial Do the people think that they will be left to say “We have faith” and will not be tested? Whoever does what is just and right, does so for his own good; and whoever does evil, does so to his own hurt: and never does God do the least wrong to His creatures. Fussilat (41:46)
How Taqdeer Works • Like you go to school/ college: • You have been given a curriculum/ syllabus • You know you will have a number of exams (quizzes, announced/ unannounced, hourlies, midterms, finals etc) • Test (i.e. trial) can be in the form of affliction or comfort • Number of Trials is given (like no. of exams) given but Notyour performance in the exam • Performance in Exam i.e. Doing good or bad determines pleasure or displeasure of Allah (swt). • Role of Dua, Aamal-us-Saleh, following Sunnah and Sharia CAN intercede the level of difficulty of the test/ trial (i.e. Taqdeer)
Why Now? • End goal of Life/ success in life/ achievement in life? • The end goal is to enter Jannat. • For Jannat you need Taqwa • An- Nab’ (78:31) • Al-Hujurat (49:13) إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ
Why Now? • Al-Baqara (2:148) • To attain Taqwa, no one is any less competent then the other. • Compare upward in Deen and downward in Dunya. (why him not me?) فَاسْتَبِقُواْ الْخَيْرَاتِ
Why Now? • Value 5 before 5 (Ibneabbas, Al Hakim) • Youth before old age • Health before sickness • Wealth before poverty • Free-time before Busy-ness • Life After Death • Story by Imam Ghazali (rah) illustrating the Urgency of Gathering Good deeds
