Mountain Flying Flight Examiner Privileges • Before conducting TA or MF assessments: • Attend mountain flying ground course • Demonstrate to director ability to instruct & assess TA and MF

Aeroplane Instructor Eligibility-Terrain Awareness (PPL) • 300 hours/25 hours PinC instructing in LFA • 50 hours instructional experience • Category C out of direct supervision • Course of TA ground/flight instruction • Demonstrate competence to appropriately qualified Flight Examiner • Logbook endorsement/copy to Director
Helicopter Instructor Eligibility-Terrain Awareness (PPL) • 250 hours/10 hours PinC (H) in mountainous environment • 50 hours instructional experience (PPL/CPL) • Category C out of direct supervision • Category C –approval from supervising instructor
Aeroplane Instructor Eligibility-Basic Mountain Flying (CPL) • 500 hours/50 hrs PinC terrain awareness trng • 150 hours instructional experience • Mountain Flying ground/flight course • Demonstrated mountain flying instruction competence to appropriately qualified FE • Logbook certification/copy to Director
Helicopter Instructor Eligibility-Basic Mountain Flying (CPL) • 500 hours/30 hours PinC in a mountainous environment • 250 hours instructional experience (PPL/CPL) • Category C out of direct supervision • Category C –approval from supervising instructor
Part 119/135 Aeroplane Mountain Flying Instructor Eligibility • At least one year experience incl 50 hours flying in recognised mountainous environment • 700 hours total time • 100 hours instructional experience • Meeting AC reqmts defined in exposition • Complete CAA accepted mountain flying course • Completed assessment flight in the presentation of mountain flying by instructor approved under 119 for this purpose
Helicopter Advanced Mountain Flying Instructor Eligibility • 700 hours/150 PinC in mountainous environment • 300 hours instructional experience • Category C out of direct supervision • Category C –approval from supervising instructor
PPL(A) training • 5 hours Low Flying/Terrain Awareness • Minimum 2 hours low flying • Minimum 2 hours terrain awareness • Logbook sign off
PPL(A) training to include: • Confined area turning in LFA • Confined area turning in a valley • Saddle/ridge crossing • Variable configurations • Variable weather conditions
PPL(H) reviewed training • Terrain Awareness syllabus • 5 hours ground/5 hours flight • Minimum 3 hours dual/1 solo • One dual flight >of 6000’ AMSL or 3000’ AGL • TA training clearly detailed in logbook • Competencies to be certified in logbook
CPL(A) training • PPL(A) terrain awareness completed • 5 hours basic mountain flying • Including minimum 2hrs low flying/2hrs basic mountain flying • Ground and flight course requirements • Logbook certification
CPL(H) reviewed training • Terrain awareness syllabus completed • BMF includes 5hrs ground/5hrs flight • Minimum 3hrs dual/1hr PinC • At least one inclement weather • Clearly detailed in logbook • Logbook certification of competencies
Helicopter Advanced Mountain Flying • Syllabus items beyond PPL/CPL minimum standard which require further training • Typically more appropriate to ‘Role Training’
119/135 • Role training emphasis • Initial, transition, and recurrent requirements include mountain flying training • AC provides guidance for exposition
