Introduction • The Ancient Egyptians were the first to tame cats to protect their corn supplies. • There are now over 100 million cats in the World and over 100 different breeds. • In the UK and USA there are more cats kept as pets than dogs and 35% of households with cats have two or more.
What They Eat • Meat is their favourite food. • They have sharp teeth to eat with.
Where They Live • Some of the bigger cats live in the wild for example lions, tigers, cheetah and panther. • Smaller domestic cats live in houses for example tabby and Siamese cat.
Some Interesting Facts • The cat was seen as a sacred animal in ancient Egypt, and the history of tame cats dates back 8000 years. • The biggest breed of domesticated cat weighs up to 11 kg. • The average cat sleeps between 12-14 hours a day.
