  2. Introduction • The setting • 40 days with Jesus (transcendence) • Second time Jesus leaves them • Surprise and astonishment (looking up)

  3. 1st Century Listener • To understand the true meaning and intension of the story • 2 others ascended (according to Scripture): Elijah and Enoch • A lot of Bible information on Elijah, little on Enoch • Also clouds: Moses, Elijah, Transfiguration

  4. Mission • Jerusalem, Samaria, the World • We continue the mission • Mission is to spread the LIGHT – love and grace can defeat evil • Tell people that they can resist evil with the help of God’s Holy Spirit • People infected by evil inclination can be turned

  5. The GLORY of God Will return • Jesus promises us that the Holy Spirit will return • Jesus had created the pathway for the Holy Spirit’s return by defeating Satan • Jesus promises that we will become a part of the Holy Spirit • The Holy Spirit comes to Jerusalem, the City of God, first

  6. For Us Today • Ask yourself the questions: • Is there any trace of Evil Inclination in you? • How can you eliminate the evil permanently? • How can you guard yourself against evil? • Can you help others learn to eliminate evil in their lives? • Can you live for Jesus?
