The Parable • The actions of the sons is the key • The first said "no," but then repented • The second said "yes" but did not do it, and did not repent • Repentance is the essential action • Sages said the repentant son would enter Heaven • Priests thought they were the first son • Jesus said they were the second son

  3. Repentance • Two types • Against God • God will atone • Animal sacrifice system • Against a person • Four-step process • Recognition of sin • Confess sin to God and seek absolution • Restitution • Never do it again

  4. For us today • Jesus tried to solve a social problem, not a political problem • Repentance is required for God's forgiveness • Walk the walk and talk the talk • Examine yourself
