Clery Act • The Department of Education requires annual safety report, timely notifications, and crime statistics. • Crimes on all campuses must be reported. • Serious crimes (homicide, sexual offenses, robbery, arson, hate crimes etc). • Also: (alcohol, drugs, and weapons).
Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting • As of July 1, 2012, Any Person employed by a public or private institution of higher education must report child abuse and neglect. • The Code of Virginia was amended to require the reporting of instances of suspected child abuse and neglect to the local Social Services Department or to the Department of Social Services (DSS) 1800-552-7092. • Incidents involving child abuse and neglect must also be reported to the NOVA Police Department. • Penalties for failing to report an incident within a 24hr period can be fines of up to $500 on the first offense and no less than $1000 for subsequent offenses. If the incident involves rape, sodomy, or sexual penetration , may be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
