Federal Assistance Award Data System (FAADS) • Project was initiated by Office of Management and budget in 1981. • FAADS is the central collection point for submissions from various Federal agencies. • Data are released on a quarterly basis.
Consolidated Federal Funds Report (CFFR) • Statistics reported on the geographic distribution of Federal expenditures. • Report is released on an annual basis. • Query system and data downloads available online.
Federal Aid to States (FAS) • Actual expenditures reported. • Assistance reported only on State and local governments. • Annual report released with CFFR.

THE CONSOLIDATED FEDERAL FUNDS REPORT (CFFR) ONLINE QUERY SYSTEM HOW TO GET THERE • Start at the website, URL: http://www.census.gov/govs/index.html • In the center of the page, under Business & Industry, select GOVERNMENTS • The following webpage is displayed • Select the Consolidated Federal Funds Report link in the top right of the page.
For the CFFR online query system, select the On-Line Query System (1993-2007) link located above the Years Available menu Note: For all other CFFR files and information, select a year. The user will be directed to the CFFR web page with all available data files, reference materials, and related links for that particular year. The link for the query system will still be available.
USING THE QUERY SYSTEM Once you have selected the online query system, the following page will be displayed. Choose Geography to see a summary of Federal expenditures for a particular state or county area, or for the entire United States. This summary can be narrowed down to a single object category. Choose Agency if you are interested in seeing a display that has been filtered to include only expenditures of a particular Federal agency or sub-agency. You will be prompted to choose a level of geography AND an agency. Choose Program if you are interested in data for a single Federal program. You will choose a level of geography AND a Federal program. The geography choices include one for "multi-state" or "multi-county." Also different from Geography and Agency searches, you are permitted to specify a "multi-year" time span.
After choosing geography and the year of interest, using the various pull down menus, continue to build your custom report. Select: STATE = New Jersey COUNTY = Yes (Choosing “No” would produce state totals) FUNDING TYPES = All Types (Choices include Grants, Direct Payments, Loans, etc) Click Submit……. Geography Example
This screen will appear, prompting you to select a county. Click submit to view the requested output.
Return to the main query system page and choose Agency in the search drop down box. Agency Example
Choose the following options: State = New Jersey County = No Agency = Commerce Department Sub-Agency = No Click submit….
Program Example • Return to the main CFFR Query page. • Select: • Year = 2007 • Search = Program
Continue by Choosing: • State = New Jersey • County = Multi • Programs = 96.002 Social Security Retirement Insurance • Click submit…. Note: With all selections in the program category, output is displayed in Excel.
