The Lisbon Treaty has reinforced protection by recognizing the respect for private life and protection of personal data as separate fundamental rights in articles 7 and 8 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. • Whereas the protection of the rights and freedom of data subjects with regard to the processing of personal data that requires appropriate technical and organizational measures to be taken; • both at the time of design of the processing system, and the time of the processing itself particularly in order to maintain security and thereby to prevent any unauthorized processing.
