Definition of Cloning • The term describes a number of different processes that can be used to produce genetically identical copies of a biological entity.
NHGRI • Gene cloning is the most common type of gene cloning at the National Human Genome Research Institute.
Gene Cloning • Procedure consists of inserting gene from one organism (foreign DNA) into the genetic material of a carrier called a vector. ie. Bacteria, yeast cells. • After gene is inserted, vector multiplies resulting in the copying of the gene many times over where it can be studied by scientists.
