Definition An estuary is a partly enclosed coastal body of water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea.
Location The Chesapeake Bay is located on the east coast of the United States in Virginia.
CLIMATE The Bay has a seasonal climate with colder summers and very warm winters.

Adaptations Fish that live in estuaries are called euryhaline fish. Many of the Plants in this region are Emergent meaning they can grow directly in a pool of water such as the Bald cypress we mentioned earlier.
Human Effects and Conservation Pollution in the water caused by dumping from industry nearby. Algae blooms caused by excessive nitrogen and phosphorus coming from sewage treatment plants. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is fighting for more conservation laws in the surrounding areas.
