Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle • Public institution dedicated to research, higher education and culture under the authority of the Ministry for Research and New Technologies as well as of the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development. • Major restructuration in 2001: 7 scientific departments, 3 of which directly linked to biodiversity research and expertise • Scientific reference to the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development in support to policies, mainly through its Department on Ecology and Biodiversity Management • Designated as the French National Reference Centre on Nature and Biodiversity to the EEA • Coordinator of the successive ETCs dealing with nature and biodiversity since 1995 • http://www.mnhn.fr/

Central Institute for Research Applied to the Sea (ICRAM) • Public research and advisory institute (established in 1982), operating under the authority of the Ministry of Environment • Mission: to contribute to the care, protection and sustainable use of the sea and its resources • ICRAM carries out scientific and technological research • Organised in 4 departments: 1. Ústav krajinnej ekológie – Slovenskej akadémie vied • Public organisation • ILE SAS is an interdisciplinary scientific institute for both the basic and applied research as well as for coordination and elaboration of ecological plans and projects • Since 1967 it organizes every three years regular international symposia on ecological problems of landscape.
