  2. Statistics • German Immigration to the United States hit its peak at about 1885, with 2,784,894 people.

  3. German vs. Italian • Just as the amount of German immigrants decrease, the amount of Italian immigrants increase. • Unrest in Italy -Men came to the United States to financially support their families.

  4. WhyImmigrate? • Dislocation caused by economic growth • Threat caused by economic growth • Opposition to newly passed anti-socialist laws

  5. After 1890… • Immigrants may have returned to Germany • Italy gained territory (Bogos, Hamasen, and Akale-Guzai) as well as ammunition. • More stability for citizens Fewer economic risks meant fewer immigrants.
