S&T info dissemination thru themass media • Philippine Science Journalists Association, Inc. or PSciJourn organized in 2001 • PSciJourn is non-stock, non-profit organization of media practitioners, communicators and advocates of S&T • serves as catalyst of change
PSciJourn legislative initiatives for S&T • House Bill 5009, “An act requiring all mass media facilities to allocate at least five (5) minutes a day for airtime and minimum of five (5) column inch space for write up designed to spread information on S&T • House Bill 5010, “An act mandating multinational and domestic corporations to allocate 1% of net annual corporate income for scientific and technological research and development
PSciJourn initiatives. . . • Presidential Proclamation 437, declaring the third week of July of every year as Science Journalism Week • Presidential Proclamation, declaring the fourth week of June of every year as Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week • Move to organize the party-list for S&T -- drafted constitution, by-laws and platform of government
Mobile IT Classroom (MITC) • provides schools in far-flung communities access to computers • bus loaded with laptop computers, audio-visual equipment and learning software • four units developed and have served more than • 200,000 students • turned over to the Department of Education • regional office thru a memorandum of agreement
Farmers Information and Technology Service (FITS) or Techno Pinoy • information and technology facility to improve access of information and technologies in agriculture and natural resources • utilize ICT, which include information databases and the Internet, to facilitate information flow and respond quickly to clients • 25 established Techno Pinoy centers in the Philippines
Multipurpose Community Telecenter (MCT) • established in 1999 in the southern part of the Philippines • contribute to people empowerment thru access to community-based information and communication resources and services • readers integrated service of a public calling office, Internet café, computer processing, library and reading center, and training resource center
CO-EXIST-SEA • spurs ideas for future STI projects and activities • transcends cultural boundaries • fosters better understanding and fruitful relationships among participants
