The different stages in the ”Interactive examination” Sample: Three consecutive cohorts of student teachers (n = 462). ...and (2) self-assess their answers in relation to those of a professional teacher. Method: 2004 - The “Interactive examination” for student teachers was piloted. 2005 - Changes were made in order to increase the transparency, for example by providing the students with exemplars. 2006 – No further changes were made. Analysis: ANOVA and Cohen’s d (Cohen, 1988) Results: Increase in transparency No changes made 1Calculated as mean score/criterion in the scoring rubric; range 0-6. Conclusion: Increased transparency, operationalized as the use of self-assessment, rubrics, and exemplars, results in an improvement of student performance.
