At present, AngularJS is one of the widely used JavaScript frameworks. The features provide by the structured framework help programmers to build a variety of websites and web applications by using HTML as a template language. The developers can even express various components of a web application by extending HTML tags. At the same time, the web developers can also accelerate isomorphic application development by using AngularJS as a component of MEAN Stack. Despite being an open source JavaScript framework, AngularJS is developed and maintained by Google. Google has been updating AngularJS consistently to make it lightweight, fast, and easy-to-use. In November 2017, Google released AngularJS 5.0.0 with a number of new features and bug fixes. The major release of the widely used JavaScript framework simplifies progressing app development, while simplifying code sharing, providing a build optimizer and reducing code compilation time.

The reworked compiler makes the JavaScript library deliver faster rebuilds. The feature further accelerates rebuilding of production builds and builds with ahead-of-time (AOT) compilation. The reworked compiler further aims to accelerate AOT compilation when being used in the production environment.
Improved Angular Command Line Interface The latest version of the JavaScript library comes with Angular CLI 1.5. The version 1.5 of the command line interface (CLI) supports Angular 5.0.0 by default. Also, the developers can use the CLI to generate Angular 5 projects by default. Angular CLI 1.5 further provides better support for TypeScript and comes with build optimizer. New Option for Preserving Whitespace AngularJS 5 allows programmers to preserve whitespace using a new optio? — preserveWhitespaces. The programmers can enable the preserveWhitespaces simply by changing the setting from false to true in the tsconfig.json file. Once they enable the option, whitespace characters will be removed from the template code automatically. The developers even have option to enable the preserveWhitespaces option at the component level.
Option to Control Form Validator Execution While using earlier versions of Angular, JavaScript developers have to execute form validators through keystroke each time the value of FormControl changes. But Angular 5 allows developers to specify and control execution of form validators. The developers can use the updateOn option to specify when the form validator needs to be performed. They can further control various aspects of form validator execution through three optio?s — cha?ge, submit and blur. These options even make it easier for programmers to control and implement complex form validation. Simplified Progressive Web App Development Often developers opt for progressive web app (PWA) keep users engaged by making their website or web applications deliver mobile app-like experience. But developers often find it daunting to build PWA with AngularJS. Angular 5 simplifies progressive web app development and deployment by providing a new ?odule — @a?gular/service-workers. It even enables developers to make their web applications support PWA by running a simple command.
Replaces Http Library with HttpClient While using Angular 4.3+, developers use HttpClient to make web requests more efficiently. The version 5.0.0 of Angular comes with an improved HttpClient. It even deprecates @angular/http library. The developers need to use HttpClient instead of @angular/http after migrating to AngularJS 5. Also, they have to replace HttpModule with HttpClientModule, along with injecting HttpClient services. TypeScript 2.4 Support The version 5.0.0 of Angular supports TypeScript 2.4. Hence, it becomes easier for developers to avail a number of new features provided by the superset of JavaScript — stricter type checking, stricter checks on weak types, and strings in enums. As most IDEs and code editors support both JavaScript and TypeScript, the developers can easily write high quality code. Also, they can build incremental build rapidly by using the Angular 5 compiler as a TypeScript transform.
Router Events Angular 5 comes with a reworked router that allows developers to expose a number of new events in the router lifecycle. The developers can take advantage of the improved router to avail new router events like ActivationStart, ActivationEnd, ChildActivationStart, ChildActivationEnd, GuardsChecksStart, GuardsChecksEnd, ResolveStart and ResolveEnd. The new router events make it easier for developers to control the web applicatio?’s functionality and behaviour. Improved Internationalization While working with earlier version of AngularJS, programmers have to format or internationalize date, currency and numbers through browser APIs. The latest version of the JavaScript library does not support Intl-API. Instead, it enables developers to format date, currency and numbers in a consistent and browser-independent way through a centralized repository — U?icode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR).
Numeric Value Based Animations While working with Angular 5, developers can create animations based on numeric values. They can use the :increment and :decrement option to make animations animate based on the numeric value of element data. They can further use these options to create animations by increasing or decreasing numeric value of element data programmatically. On the whole, Angular 5 comes with a number of new features and enhancements. The developers can further refer to the detailed migration guide to update to Angular 5 without putting extra time and effort. However, Google has already revealed its plan to roll out Angular 6 in early 2018. Angular 6 will come with several new and improved features to make JavaScript developers productive and accelerate custom web application development.
