Should You Integrate Manual Testing and Automated Testing in Test Plan?

You can easily convey the test strategy clearly and elaborately to various stakeholders by preparing a test plan. In addition to working as a blueprint for the software testing activities, the test plan will further help you to allocate testing resources efficiently, and determine test schedules, estimation, and deliverable precisely.

  1. You can easily convey the test strategy clearly and elaborately to various stakeholders by preparing a test plan. In addition to working as a blueprint for the software testing activities, the test plan will further help you to allocate testing resources efficiently, and determine test schedules, estimation, and deliverable precisely. But you must pick the right software testing tools to enable testers to execute tests more efficiently. The test automation frameworks will make it easier for testing professionals to perform and repeat the required tests under varying.

  2. Also, the testers can use specialized tools to produce more reliable test results and compare the actual test results wit expected test results. But the test automation tools are designed with programmed intelligence. Hence, they lack the capability to assess the user experience delivered by the software application precisely. Also, the testers have to create, modify, and maintain the test scripts regularly to test the user interface (UI) and source code that keep changing regularly. Hence, automated testing cannot replace manual testing completely.

  3. The testers still have to perform certain tests manually to produce more reliable test results. While preparing a test plan, you must remember that manual testing and automated testing complement each other. The testing professionals must perform certain tests manually to evaluate the software from the perspective of end users. But they will need robust test automation tools to speed up test script execution and increase testing consistency. Hence, you must integrate manual testing and automated testing in the test plan. Also, the test plan must clearly define the tests to be automated and perform manually.
