What is black box testing?
All software testing methods can be broadly divided into two categories – black-box testing and white-box testing. A tester must know the internal design, structure, and implementation of the software while performing white-box testing. The white-box testing methods require testers evaluate the source code of the software and to identify the units or sections of code that do not behave as expected.
On the other hand, a tester can perform black-box testing without accessing the source code of the software and understanding its internal system design. The black-box testing methods enable QA professionals to test the software without being familiar with the design, implementation, programming language, and operating systems. The testers perform back-box testing based on the functionality of the software and client requirements.
They further perform a variety of black-box testing – unit testing, system testing, regression testing, integration testing and system acceptance testing – throughout the software development lifecycle. Also, they have option to accelerate black-box testing using robust tools and frameworks. However, the testers can perform black box testing without being proficient in any programming language or operating system.
Each enterprise can perform black-box testing without deploying skilled and experienced testing professionals. The testing professionals can use black-box testing methods to evaluate large code segments without accessing the source code. However, the testers must use various black- box testing techniques to produce more precise test results. They have to decide the right black-box testing technique to write test scenarios and test cases more efficiently.
