The Godhead WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE NATURE OF THE GODHEAD?
Why do I need to know about the Godhead? Just as it’s usually easier for us to love friends and family more deeply the better we get to know them, knowing more about the true nature of the Godhead can allow us to feel greater love toward Them.
THE GODHEAD IS MADE UP OF WHAT 3 BEINGS? • GOD THE FATHER • THE SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST • THE HOLY GHOST
Other Christian churches believe in something called the “Trinity” do you know what that means? Belief in the Trinity means that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are one being. Read D&C 130:22 What does this scripture teach us regarding our church’s belief inthe nature of the Godhead? We know that the Father and the Son each have bodies of flesh and bones and that the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit.
There are three separate beings in the Godhead Read the following scriptures and discuss how the scripture helps us know more about the nature of the Godhead. Why Does This Matter? In addition to knowing that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings, we need to remember why it’s important to know that. Without that knowledge, we couldn’t fully understand the following truths...
Heavenly Father We are literally the spirit sons and daughters of Heavenly Father. God is not an impersonal spiritual entity; He is a real being—our Father—who loves us and created us in His image. Knowing that, it’s much easier to go to Him in prayer because you can feel His love and also trust that He knows you individually.
Jesus Christ Christ’s divine mission is to be our Savior and Redeemer. He is our Mediator with the Father. He needed to have the immortal traits of being the Father’s Only Begotten Son in the flesh in order to be able to atone for us and be resurrected.
Holy Ghost We can know the will of the Father and gain a testimony of Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost, whose work it is to testify of Them.
Although the members of the Godhead are THREEdistinct beings with distinct roles, They are one in purpose. WHAT IS THEIR PURPOSE? READ MOSES 1:39 How amazing is it that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are completely focused on YOUR salvation!
President Gordon B. Hinckley Miracle of miracles and wonder of wonders, they are interested in us, and we are the substance of their great concern. They are available to each of us.
Find Comfort in this knowledge! Life is often challenging and difficult but having a knowledge of the Godhead and their great love for you should bring comfort to you. Never feel alone. You have great power, love and support on your side.
Anne C. Pingree, Second Counselor in the Relief Society general presidency said: “As Latter-day Saint women who have made covenants, all of us must have a clear understanding of the nature and roles of the members of the Godhead. Praying to a Father in Heaven, who knows and loves us; having confidence in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer; and feeling the companionship and promptings of the Holy Ghost, who teaches and testifies of the Father and Son, bring peace and joy to us in these perilous times.”
Having knowledge of the Godhead can help you share gospel truths with others Role Play Scenarios
Share your beliefs with HUMILITY When we are asked gospel questions...do your best to respond with humility. Gospel topics can be sensitive topics for people. Listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost as you share your beliefs and testimony of the Godhead and other gospel topics. Pride is the opposite of HUMILITY. Pride is competitive; those who are prideful seek to have more and presume they are better than other people. Pride usually results in feelings of anger and hatred, and it is a great stumbling block.
The Godhead “I believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. I was baptized in the name of these three. I was married in the name of these three. I have no question concerning their reality and their individuality.” President Hinckley
