  3. Business Objects Tips/FAQs How-To’s Highlight • Howto ensure that a formula entered into a report exported from Excel is treated as a formula, not as text. • then change the type to ‘General’.

  4. Business Objects Tips/FAQs How-To’s Highlight • How to copy a data value from a Webi document so it can be pasted into other applications such as SRS screens, etc.

  5. Business Objects Tips/FAQs How-To’s Highlight • For example, right click on a single Penn_ID, Copy as text • Then… in SRS Screen 003, put cursor on PennID, paste the value.

  6. Using Measures in Web Intelligence • What is a Measure? • A type of Universe object • (objects are Dimensions, Measures, or Details) • Must be numeric • (but not all numbers are Measures) • Can be given a default aggregation rule • (Sum, Count, Average, Min, Max, None…) • Will behave differently in different contexts

  7. Measures, continued • Aggregate objects in the student universes • Objects with “Sum” or “Count” in the name • Should be used in summary queries only • If you are bringing in person-specific detail, such as Penn_ID, it really doesn’t make any sense to bring in an object called “Count PennID.” • Always validate the results • Especially if they are from a universe object that is aggregating for you, or variables you create that are measures that aggregate. If the results aren’t correct, it is most likely a calculation context issue.

  8. Some universe measures are changing Because they can cause unnecessary confusion when the calculation context changes, we are making the following changes:

  9. Becoming an expert at using and creating Measures • Allow time for result validation • Review the SAP documentation on “Using Functions, Formulas and Calculations in Web Intelligence” • Consider taking an Advanced Webi class: http://www.upenn.edu/computing/isc/training/oncampus.html • for further reading: http://michaelwelter.wordpress.com/2011/07/31/removing-the-confusion-from-calculation-contexts/

  10. Additions to Corporate Reports Library • Leave & Hiatus new subfolder • Returned from Leave • On Leave - expected to have returned • On Leave – no expected return date • Readmitted from Hiatus • Active program – no registered credits • Existing report moved “Currently On Leave”
