The Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay are the large bodies of water that border Virginia.
The states that border Virginia are West Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
There are five geographic regions in Virginia. The Coastal Plain (Tidewater), Piedmont (land at the foot of the mountains), Blue Ridge Mountains, Valley and Ridge, and the Appalachian Plateau.
Fall Line: The natural border between the Coastal Plain (Tidewater) and Piedmont Regions, where waterfalls prevent further travel on the river.
