Population Density • The number of people occupying an area of land Population of Area Land Area = Population Density
Population Density (people per km2)
You can measure population change through the Crude Birth Rate, the Crude Death Rate, and the Natural Increase Rate.
The Crude Birth Rate (CBR) is the total number of live births in a year for every 1,000 living citizens
The Crude Death Rate (CDR) is the total number of deaths in a year for every 1,000 living citizens
The Natural Increase Rate (NIR) is the percentage by which a population grows each year
What is the NRI of Afghanistan? CBR: 43 CDR: 16 NRI: ____ 2.7
Total Fertility Rate, Infant Mortality Rate, and Life Expectancy also affect population growth.
The Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is the average number of children a woman will have during her child-bearing years
The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is the annual number of deaths of infants under the age of 1 for every 1,000 live births
Life Expectancy measures the average number of years a newborn can expect to live
