The most dangerous game setting project. By: Ryan Johnson
“But as he forged along, he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were in one enormous building- a lofty structure with pointed towers lunging upward into the gloom.” • The protagonist is standing in front of this massive castle and is astonished at the size of the mansion. Earlier in the text it states Rainsford fell off of his yacht, meaning that he is a wealthy man. If he is surprised at the size of this house than that probably means that the house is massive. BUT Rainsford goes to this house thinking that it is a safe haven.. He is about to experience a rude awakening.
“ They indicate a channel; Giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide open jaws; they can crush ships just like I crush this nut.” –pg.28 • In this quote, General Zaroff is explaining to Rainsford how he traps these sailors. Connell (the author) includes this because this shows that Zaroff has a plan for a lot of things and he is a very intelligent man. He also includes this because this shows how the sailors get to “Shiptrap Island”.
“The ground grew softer, under his moccasins; the vegetation grew ranker, denser… As he stepped forward, his foot sank in the ooze.” • Connell uses this in the text to create suspense. Earlier in the short story, Zaroff tells Rainsford to look out for this one swamp because of the quick sand pit… Rainsford found the pit in a very unfortunate way. By stepping in it and ALMOST severely hurting him self.
JUST A REMINDER ALL RESPECT INCLUDED, but I asked where to post this and I just now found out. I hope this does not effect my grade…
