Coaches can contact you July 1 and make offers • Common Market: in-state tuition for out-of-state schools
Steps to Take for College Application Process… • If you apply to a school using the CommonApplication (456 schools) and the University of Maryland-College Parkyou will apply on-line and information will be transferred electronically. www.commonapp.com lists schools to consider. • Maryland schools using Common Application are: • College of Notre Dame, Goucher College, Hood College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University, McDaniel College, Salisbury University, St. John’s College, St. Mary’s College, Stevenson University, Towson, UMBC, Washington College. • All other required materials will be sent by mail from Counselors/Registrars/Teachers.
Applications and Essays • Students should currently be working on their applications • English teachers will be working on the personal essays with the students! • PSAT Day- Wednesday, October 12 - English teachers will be available to help seniors with the essays • College Visit - don’t forget a prearranged absence form.
Applications How Many Applications Are Enough? • Apply to your dream school • Apply to one or two ideal schools that fit your credentials • Apply to two schools where you meet their criteria and would be happy to attend • Consider your local community college
Applications • Apply to colleges online • Proofread application and print and save before sending • Look for e-mail confirmation within 24 hours. • Do not wait until last minute • Do not forget support documentation • Watch deadlines

Transcript Request Process… • What is included in a Transcript: • Courses and final grades from 9th-11th • Senior year schedule • Recent senior report card • Weighted and unweighted GPA and ranking • CHS profile • Description of special program, if applicable • Transcripts will be sent electronically only for Common Application schools and University of Maryland College Park. • Keep in mind, senior ranking will occur October 1, 2011!
The Transcript Packet will NOT include: • Standardized test scores (PSAT, SAT I /ACT & SAT II) are not included on the transcript. • Some colleges may already have your scores • HSA scores • College Board charges a fee to send test scores to the college of your choice. • Remember to request 4 for free when taking the test!
Mid-Year & End of the Year Reports: • Colleges will see first and second quarter grades as well as mid-term exam grades!! • Students should provide the registrar with a stamped envelope addressed to the college. • Centennial High School is the return address. • No charge for mid-year reports and end-of-year transcripts!!!
Transcript Request Process A Transcript Request Form-completed and signed Provide $4.00 for each official transcript requested. Required 4 weeks notice for transcript. Watch your deadlines! Online Applications: You are responsible for providing accurate email addresses to the Common Application and UMCP. Paper Applications: Provide a Secondary School Report form (from website or application packages) Provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope for counselor’s letter to the registrar. Registrars will mail or submit your transcripts, NOT you or your parents!
Overview of College Application Process • Select college(s) and carefully read entirely. • Provide counselor and teachers with recommendation information if you have not already from junior year. (red and green folders) • Counselors and registrars will process all letters of recommendation and transcripts for the Common Application and UMCP electronically. • For all other colleges, provide self-addressed, stamped envelopes for your counselor letter, to the registrar. The registrar will include the letter with your official transcript. • Provide self-addressed, stamped envelopes for teachers and give that to your teacher. • Complete the online application and include all the requirements before the deadline.
