Comparisons of equality • tan…como (as…as) With an adverb or an adjective, use tan…como tan = as; como = as BOTH words mean “as” in this context • Ese coche está tan brillante como el nuestro.That car is as shiny as ours. • Ellos hablan tan bien como tú.They speak as well as you do.

Comparisons of equality * • Tanto como (as much as) • Alone as an adverb, use the invariable tanto como • Ella no come tanto como yo.She does not eat as much as I do.

Comparisons of equality • tanto(-a, -os, -as) … como • With a noun, use tanto(-a, -os, -as) … como, in agreement with the noun. • Tengo tantos problemas como tú.I have as many problems as you do.

superlativos • Use the following pattern for superlatives: def. art. + noun + más / menos + adj. + de plus noun for what you are comparing to • ¿Quién es el actor más rico de los EEUU?Who is the richest actor in the United States? • El actor más rico de Los Estados Unidos es Tom Cruise.The richest actor in the United States is Tom Cruise. NOTE: If you are certain what you are comparing, you can drop the noun in this sentence… El actor más rico de Los Estados Unidos es Tom Cruise.Because actor is clear from the first sentence.
