Creating Local Taxonomies • As part of the IPAI inventory, for those who feel the need there is an option to add an additional taxonomy besides the required global taxonomy. • If country teams decide to apply a local taxonomy, it must be predefined and consistently applied during the inventory process.
Creating Local Taxonomies • The local taxonomy can serve to either 1) add a new field (for example, the presence of infomediaries) or 2) add a new category to a field within the global taxonomy (for example, adding the category “community owned” under ownership. NOTE: In this instance you still must choose “other” under ownership in the global taxonomy. Use the local taxonomy to supply detail, not substitute for doing the global taxonomy.)
Creating Local Taxonomies • There may be up to 5 local taxonomy fields, although not all 5 need to be used • The new fields/categories are not hierarchical and no other relationship between them is assumed.
Creating Local Taxonomies • The level indicators should be numeric (1 – 9) • The following slide shows 2 examples
