Transition • Current students continue in program & will register with AU. Timing to be determined as part of transition strategy • Some students taking AU courses • Athabasca University encourages qualified candidates in current RAIC Syllabus to continue in renewed program The program reaffirms its focus on the design studio, delivered by qualified architects under contract with full accountability to AU, RAIC and the student.
Summary/Next Steps • Old school principles as a new form of education in the information age • Fair alternate path to licensure • Certification of graduates by CACB • graduates certified • program not accredited • Supports the academy and CACB re: FTA’s • Does not compete with Accredited Canadian Schools of Architecture • Recommend removal of Intern Architect status (most > 5600 hours exp) • Recommend recognition of students as student members of provincial associations • Recommend support all provincial associations and CCUSA AU Distance Education is aligned with the program administration and delivery standards required to meet the CES and CACB accreditation standards. This includes competency based assessment for advanced standing in all streams.
