Romeo & Juliet theme By Nathan Baker
Theme definition Theme- The central idea of a work of literature Subject is different from theme, the subject of a reading can be expressed with one or two words.
My theme The theme I have chosen to represent Romeo & Juliet is: “Love is worth risks”
Example 1 Romeo & Juliet’s families were mortal enemies. The Capulets and Montagues have been feuding for years and were always at each others throats. The prologue says “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes. A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life” Romeo knows that Juliet is the daughter to Capulet, the Montagues enemy, but still pursues her and tries his hardest be with her.
Example 2 Tybalt had killed Mercutio when he tried to stab Rome. The stab was fatal to Mercutio and Romeo wanted revenge. Romeo fought and killed Tybalt for Mercutio knowing that the Prince had said whoever fights again will be executed. This shows that Romeo knew the risks of killing Tybalt but did it anyways because of his love for Mercutio.
Example 3 Romeo had gotten banished from Verona because he killed Tybalt. Now if he is seen in Verona, the Prince will have him executed. But since Romeo loves Juliet very much, he decides it’s worth the risk of being caught to be able to see her.
