Facts about World War II • People in the U.S. could not buy food without ration coupons. (pg.15) • U.S. fought Germany. (pg.27) • Allies took Rome away from Germany. (pg. 28) • June 6, 1944 was called D Day, when the US landed in France to start taking it back. (pg. 28) • On April 30 Hitler killed himself and the Germans surrendered one week later. (page 179)
Effects WW II had on families • Fathers and brothers had to go to war. (pg 11-13) • Women had to do the men's work. (pg 19) • Families were asked to plant victory gardens for war effort. (pg19) • Family members were killed. (pg24) • There was a shortage of ambulances because of the war. (pg44)
