The Adrenal Medulla gland is located anterior to the kidneys, surrounded by connective tissue also know as the Adrenal Cortex.
Functions The adrenal medulla secretes adrenaline (epinephrine) and noradrenaline (norepinephrine). It synthesizes, stores, and releases catecholamines which are defined as any class of aromatic amines that includes a number of neurotransmitters that derive from the amino acid tyrosine. Adrenaline and noradrenaline are triggered by nervous stimulation as a result of mental or physical stress.
