SQ4R • Question • Turn the title, headings, and/or subheadings into question. • Read questions at the end of the chapters or after each subheading. • Ask yourself questions: • “What did my instructor say about this chapter or subject?” • “What do I already know about this subject?”
SQ4R • Read • Main idea in each section. • Concentrate. • Note all the underlined, italicized, bold printed words or phrases. • Only one section at a time.
SQ4R • Recite • Key terms and concepts. • Ask yourself what you have just read. • Summarize in your own words. • Look for answers as you read. • Take brief notes before moving on.
SQ4R • Relate • Find ways which are personally meaningful. • Try to link new facts, terms and concepts with information you already know.
SQ4R • Review • When you are done reading, skim back over chapter. • Read your notes. • Check yourself by reciting and quizzing yourself. • Make review a key part of your study habits.
