  1. B.TECH TECHNICAL SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 MULTI PROTOCOL LABEL SWITCHING Seminar ID:2899 By RAVI ANAND : 201416041 Under the guidance of Deepika Rani Sahu Ravi Anand (201416041)

  2. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 CONTENTS Introduction Motivation Toward MPLS Development Of MPLS Architecture MPLS Element MPLS Header Operation Key Features Conclusion Refrences Ravi Anand (201416041)

  3. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 INTRODUCTION IP network architecture more complex. MPLS or Multi Protocol Label Switching. Uses Label appended to IP packets. Routing switches just look or swap label and forward it. Avoid routing table lookup. Ravi Anand (201416041)

  4. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 MOTIVATION TOWARD MPLS Earlier networking Protocol treat packet differently and receive differently. Packets had different structures, with different lengths and fields. Router and switches translate packets from one network to another. Ravi Anand (201416041)

  5. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 DEVELOPMENT OF MPLS • The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) MPLS working group was formed in 1997. • MPLS need not to inspect every field of every packet, and eliminating the need to re-format or encapsulate frames and cells. • In MPLS networks, packets are assigned labels. Ravi Anand (201416041)

  6. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 ARCHITECTURE • The architecture is split into two separate components: • forwarding component • control component Ravi Anand (201416041)

  7. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 MPLS ELEMENTS • Forward Equivalence Class (FEC) • Ingress Label Edge Router (LER) • Egress Label Edge Router (LER) • Label Switch Router (LSR) • Label Switch Path (LSP) Ravi Anand (201416041)

  8. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 MPLS HEADER • Label • CoS (Class of Service) • Stack Field (S) • Time to Live (TTL) Ravi Anand (201416041)

  9. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 OPERATIONS • Packet travels from 10.0.0.0/24 to 10.2.0.0/24 • Ingress router R2 assign label 30 • R3 swaps label 30 with Label 36 • R4 removes the Label and deliver to customer edge router R5. Ravi Anand (201416041)

  10. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 MPLS APPLICATION • MPLS Virtual Private Network • MPLS label loading is the key operation to implement VPN • Traffic Engineering • Process of selecting LSP chosen by data traffic in order to balance the links. Ravi Anand (201416041)

  11. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 Key Features • Scalability • Security • Implementation Cost Ravi Anand (201416041)

  12. B.TECH SEMINAR PRESENTATION-2017 CONCLUSION • MPLS provides an effective design of technologies and protocols to solve the most pressing network-design problems. • MPLS are faster and secure as compared to IP routing. • The top label is used to get the traffic through the core, and the inner label is used to push the traffic into the destination VPN. Ravi Anand (201416041)
