  1. Co-production Workshop 21st Nov 2013

Introduction Two years ago we began work to explore the benefit of establishing a youth work sector partnership This revealed the range, and volume of work being undertaken across the sectors, and identified a number of areas where working in partnership and sharing resources and information could be beneficial.

  3. Since then we have Established a Youth Sector Partnership in the city. Established an on line network that supports the youth work sector across the city. Developed and established a website for young people that brings together all the services and activities available in the city for them.

  4. The yorkyouth network now has more than 200 members. • From organisations across the spectrum of providers- sports/ arts/ housing/ substance misuse/ faith groups • Starting to become a platform where ideas and resources can be shared

  5. Launched in March 2013 Number of individual visits per month is increasing. Presence on facebook and twitter is growing. Number of volunteering opportunities for young people has increased. Number of activities and services that help has remained static.

  7. What is co-production? An approach which seeks to bring partners together to plan and deliver services and provision that is centred around the identified needs of young people. A process where ideas, knowledge, expertise, resources, equipment and staffing from a range of different providers are brought together and used to their maximum potential.

Sharing vehicles The Rock using the Skatepark 4 corners Opening volunteer support night to the whole sector Opening access to CYC training to the wider sector Supporting the re-establishment of Copmanthorpe Youth Club Working alongside groups to create new provision (drama workshops, Positive Activities holiday schemes)

  9. Why have a co-production scheme? We believe that by working together we can provide more for young people - ensuring that the resources we have are utilised to the full, sharing staff knowledge and expertise and pooling access to training. It’s about creating a vibrant approach to working together that seeks to reduce barriers, and approach issues from a collective stand point. Creating stronger networks, and increasing social capital as it goes.

  10. What could you get out of co-production? In your groups discuss: What could you get out of co-production? Are we here for different reasons?

  11. What the co-production scheme could involve Currently we are only looking at what CYC Youth Support Services could provide .... which makes the scheme a little lopsided ... In the longer term-could the scheme also involve other’s resources?

What the co-production scheme could involve Initial ideas are: • Use of YSS vehicles • Use of YSS buildings • Access to youth support worker time • Access to youth and community development lead-time • Access to equipment • Access to Management Information expertise • Support with Quality assurance • Access to training • Access to some money

  13. Are these things useful? In groups discuss: Which of these will be the most popular? Are any of these things useless? Is there anything missing? Could you add anything to the pot? Are there any issues with this?

  14. Structure. The yorkyouth online social network will support the development of ideas and proposals, alongside workshops to generate ideas. There could be 2 pots of money- one for smaller amounts that can be accessed more quickly, the other for larger amounts. If CYC own all the resources in the pot ... And are in charge of making decisions ... How do we ensure this is co-production? Who decides which ideas are supported ...

  15. What structure do we need? In groups discuss: What structures do we need to promote the scheme and generate ideas? Should there be 2 processes- a small, quick one and slower, bigger one? How do we ensure the scheme is fair? What should be insisted on (feedback from yp, QA processes, not promoting a single religious/ political agenda?)

  16. Setting the priorities... What should the scheme support • Youth work • Ensuring a range and a balance of provision? • Meeting priority needs? • Link to YSS/ CYC priorities? • Draws from Co-production models- involves at least 3 organisations working together

  20. Next steps • Based on feedback from this workshop a survey will be launched on yorkyouth asking for wider feedback. (December) • 9th December- next yorkyouth networking event 1-3pm equipment/ resources sharing • Late Jan - Incubator workshop: • Forming partnerships • Identifying needs • Beginning to develop proposals • March- decisions made about first proposals • April- open for business • Sept- main proposals developed and agreed and work ongoing • Jan- March 2015- evaluation
