Mentor Texts Title and Summaries - circulate similarity shared by mentor texts: titles and covers show people in serious or emotional situations Let’s read Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting and look for possible topics that might inspire you to write, topics include: -something in the text that makes you sad -an illustration or phrase that makes you feel empathy -a line or quote that makes you angry
Fly Away Home & Homework Were there any lines in the text that made you feel a certain emotion? How might that feelings inspire you to write? Graphic Organizer – model small group remaining 2 rows – to be completed independently for homework; reading the short story “Eleven”
