St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information During the Fall of 2011 the BHNCDSB created a integration committee which consists of the following members: Dan Dignard (Trustee) Trish Kings (Superintendent) Tom Grice (Superintendent) Kelly Severn (CSAC Chair – Holy Cross) Brian Kinrade (CSAC Chair – St. Mary) Neil Chopp (Principal – Holy Cross) Kevin Wendling (Principal – St. Mary)
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information The purpose of the integration committee is to ensure that all members of the St. Mary and Holy Cross Catholic School Communities (students, teachers, parents) are supported as we move towards the creation of a new school community for the Fall of 2012 at Holy Cross. One of the activities to help with this transition is tonight’s information evening.
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information The purpose of this presentation is to inform the St. Mary and Holy Cross School Communities as to the work which is being done to support the integration of staff and students from St. Mary School to Holy Cross School which will occur in September 2012.

St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information Specifically this presentation will focus on: Transportation – How does bussing work? Resources – What will happen to all the learning materials at St. Mary’s? Staffing – What will happen to the current staff at St. Mary’s and Holy Cross schools? Integration– What will be done to help my child feel welcome at their new school? What will be done to help my child adjust to the new students joining our community?
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information Transportation – How does bussing work? Currently the transportation consortium is beginning to examine all of the issues in regards to student transportation to Holy Cross School. This process will include: • Determining bus stops • Determining pick up and drop off times • Determining which streets are “hazard areas” Students in the St. Mary’s area eligible for bussing will be informed by the end of June

St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information Resources – What will happen to all the learning materials at St. Mary? Learning materials/School resources which are: • Supporting the current subject curriculum • Not duplicated with materials currently at Holy Cross - In good condition All resources will be moved during the summer break (July-August, with an deadline of August 15th ) from St. Mary to Holy Cross.
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information These resources would include, but not limited to: • Literacy resources • Textbooks • Technology – including the 6 smart boards • Special Education equipment and resources • Furniture, shelving, appliances • Physical Education Equipment The process of moving all resources to Holy Cross will be supervised by Mr. Chopp and Mr. Wendling
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information Staffing – What will happen to the current staff at St. Mary’s and Holy Cross schools? Although we would like all of the current staff of Holy Cross and St. Mary’s to come together in order to create the new school community. However, the School Board must be respectful of the current collective agreements as well as past practice.
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information By the end of February a principal for the new school community will be named. By the beginning of June most (if not all) of the teachers and grade assignments will be finalized. By the beginning of May the secretarial staff and caretaking staff will be finalized. By the beginning of the school year (September 2012) all educational assistants will be finalized.
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information Transition – What will be done to help my child feel welcome at his/her new school;? What will be done to help my child adjust to the new students joining our community? There are a number of activities that have been planned in order to assist students and staff with their transition to their new community, these activities include:
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information These activities include: • Christmas Mass and Luncheon (December) • Parent Information Night (January) • Exhibition Basketball and Volleyball Games (January, March) • Shrove Tuesday Luncheon (February) • Pen-pal activities (February) • I-Walks (February, May) • Easter Mass (April) • PD Day with Holy Cross/St. Mary Staffs (April)
St. Mary/Holy Cross Integration Information These activities include: • Visits of St. Mary’s students to Holy Cross (March – June) • Catholic Education Week Mass • Primary Play Day (June) • Community BBQ/Open House at Holy Cross (June) As well from February – June Holy Cross School will provide newsletters to St. Mary’s families
