Current Status • Francophone – 5 recorded lectures online http://137.122.238.180/website_archived.aspx • Anglophone • 8 lectures have been offered from RGNCivic/Student home • Student survey completed • Instructor survey in progress • TOH IT department: No significant impact on the hospital network https://www.elluminate.com/pmtg.jnlp?psid=d1854898677.442611

  5. Student Feedback 1 Not having to travel to another location to attend the lectures saved me a lot of time

  6. Student Feedback 2 I found professors were comfortable with delivering lectures via webcasting

  7. Student Feedback 3 Not seeing the professors on webcam during remote live lectures was not disturbing at all

  8. Student Feedback 4 Overall, I think the webcasting lectures met my needs as a learner

  9. Student Feedback 5 I would recommend the Faculty to offer webcasting lectures to the students in the future

Perceived Needs 1 • Technical –Software licensing, support personnel, storage and streaming server • Who does what? • Faculty development – using the software, online pedagogy & best practices, and other technologies associated with it, i.e. PPT • Student orientation • Management – webcasting system administration, user import, scheduling and archiving lectures • Collaboration – hospitals, especially IT department

Perceived Needs 2 • Policy • Intellectual property – archived lectures • How often should instructors offer live lectures? • will student attendance be recorded? • in what circumstances students will be allowed to access the archived lectures only? • will Francophone students have permission to attend the live and archived English lectures? • who should make the policy – the faculty? the hospital departments?

Webcasting Products • ePresence – UT based research project, open source, designed for one way (didactic) communication, has VoIP, video and PPT sharing, must have in-house station(s) and technician • Elluminate – Calgary based commercial software designed for higher education, has pedagogical tools such as hand raising, VoIP, PPT and white board, application sharing, polling etc., can be hosted in-house or by Elluminate.
